Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is a surgical process that helps restore the shape, contour, and appearance of the breast after mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other breast cancer–related surgery. For many patients, reconstruction is an important step in healing—both physically and emotionally.
Reconstruction can be performed at the time of cancer surgery or later, depending on medical treatment, personal preference, and overall health. Every reconstruction plan is individualized.
Gender-affirming top surgery refers to surgical procedures that alter the chest to better reflect a person’s gender identity.
Chest masculinization surgery typically involves removal of breast tissue, chest contouring, and nipple-areola repositioning to create a flatter, more traditionally masculine chest. Chest feminization surgery may include breast augmentation to create a fuller, more traditionally feminine chest.
Dr. Parcells and Dr. Pasick customize each surgical plan based on anatomy, skin quality, chest size, and patient goals, with a focus on natural contour, symmetry, and long-term satisfaction.

You may be a good candidate for
Gender-Affirming top surgery if you:
- Experience chest-related gender dysphoria
- Are in good overall physical and mental health
- Meet surgical readiness criteria
- Have realistic expectations about results and scarring
- Do not smoke or are willing to stop before surgery
Surgical eligibility guidelines are informed by the World Professional
Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Our team will review
required documentation and criteria during your consultation.
At this time, we do not perform gender-affirming top surgery on patients
under 19 years of age, in accordance with current federal mandates.
Recovery depends on the type of top surgery performed. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are common during the first few weeks.
Most patients wear compression garments or dressings to support healing. Light activity can usually be resumed
within one to two weeks, with gradual return to exercise over several weeks.
Final results continue to refine over several months as swelling resolves and scars mature.
Gender-affirming top surgery may be covered by insurance, depending on your plan and policy requirements. Coverage is typically based on medical necessity and adherence to WPATH guidelines.
Our team can help review insurance benefits, discuss required documentation, and guide you through the approval process when applicable. For patients paying out of pocket, detailed pricing is discussed during consultation.
